Monday morning was spent in the shop working on the fish finder/sonar.

Pentoga Road

We didn't receive as much rain yesterday as I'd hoped, a mere four-tenths of an inch, but what we got soaked in and was much needed. The next chance is Thursday night and into this weekend.

I wasted all of Monday morning attempting to reattach a severed transducer cord to my sonar/fish finder. You might recall that I cut it last spring with a circular saw when I got lazy and tried to cut off a piece of PVC pipe with the cord inside that was being used to get the transducer under the ice.  I could have taken the cord out, but I was in a hurry and thought if I were really really careful I might be able to save a bit of time. We know how that turned out.

I soldered the wires on Monday, used liquid tape to seal the connections, shrink tape, and did everything but whistle Dixie... all to no avail. The head unit won't read the transponder. I think I ruined the entire thing.

If it was someone else, I'd be obligated to tease them. Since it's me, cutting the cable is not nearly as funny. Oh well, live and learn.

Thankfully, the afternoon was much more productive. I dug a large load of dirt, bringing it to the front of the property to fill in several large depressions.

After, I figured there was enough backhoe work to be done in the side yard that it would be worthwhile moving it to the front.

I took my time and by afternoon's end, had one area ready to rake. My goal is to have the south side finished by month's end, possibly sooner.

Work was halted when the rain returned during the late afternoon.
The first of the carrots were picked last night from the raised planter I made earlier this spring. Everything growing in it is far ahead of the garden, probably because of the location on the south side of the barn. Daily watering by hand doesn't hurt either.

A quiet evening was spent watching two hours of American Ninja Warrior followed by Bear Grilles guiding Kate Hudson around the Italian Alps on his newest adventure program. Poor guy, had to spend a night in the wilderness, alone, with a beautiful actress. It's tough, but I guess someone has to do it.

Sargie opens today and since she should be home early tonight, I think I'll put some pork loins in the smoker, enough that we'll have at last two meals from them.

I'm going to grade papers this morning and make up the weekly test. The temperature's to be cooler and less humid so no matter what I do, it should be comfortable. Assuming the ground is dry enough, I'll return to work in the side yard. It's time to get that puppy finished.

But first, I'm fairly sure there's a cup of coffee to be enjoyed in my immediate future while listening to the news.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

The carrots and beets are literally pouring from the raised planter.
