July 12, 2015 - Sunday morning
66 degrees/clear/calm
Pentoga Road

It's going to be another hot day here on Pentoga Road. With highs forecast to reach 80 degrees, accompanied by ample humidity, we'll be spending some time in front of the fan before day's end.

Saturday was a busy one. I was up early and began painting the north side of the barn. Sargie followed soon after mowing the lawn.

It was soon evident that I'd missed some places when power washing the barn on Friday, so I had no choice but to let the paint I'd already brushed on dry, then wash the siding again, let it dry, then resume painting.

With sweat already running and dripping into my eyes, it wasn't the best way to begin the day.

An errant tree had hopped out in front of the mower when Sargie was making a turn and snagged one wheel on the mower deck.

There was nothing to do, but stop painting and do a two-hour repair and weld job. Bless her heart, Sargie picked up a paint brush and finished the lower half of the barn while I ground, brushed, clamped, and finally welded the bracket back onto the deck.

I resumed painting from the ladder shortly after while Sargie finished the lawn. It all came out good in the long run.

Other than the trim, the north side is finished
We were hot and tired and it had been a long day. What to do? We hopped in the car, turned the air up as cold as possible, and drove to town for a Coke. After, we putted around an area lake watching people play in the water at a public beach.

I thought last night would be a good one to sit in front of the fire and enjoy the evening. Sargie and I hadn't been sitting there more than three minutes when we decided that was the dumbest thing in the world. It was hot outside and we were going to snuggle up next to a fire? We came inside, took showers, and spent the rest of the evening sitting in front of the fan watching television.

I think today will be low-key. The temperature is to be just as warm as yesterday. The big jobs, mowing and painting are complete, at least for now, so I think we'll take it easy. I want to dig and haul another load of fill to the front, but other than a trip to town for groceries, we'll simply cool it. Rain is forecast for the next three days. I hope we get it. Things are looking dry.

It's time to head out to the garden and see what has grown overnight.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
