The strawberries are beginning to blossom.
May 7, 2015 - Thursday evening
74 degrees/partly cloudy/breezy
Pentoga Road

We waited all winter for warm weather and now that it's here, I'm not sure we really know what to do with it. Somewhere along the line, we seemed to skip spring and simply landed in the middle of summer. Today's high was 84 degrees. I'm not certain we ever saw temperatures that hot more than once or twice last summer.

Thursday began with the usual five-mile walk. I was grateful I went early as it would have been miserably hot later in the day.

The wind was blowing, a perfect day for drying clothes. I did several loads of laundry, running in and out of the house to the washer while working outside.

We were out of ciabatta bread, our favorite. Hmm, the sun was out, it was warm, I wasn't overly ambitious... a perfect day to ride into town on the four-wheeler.

I was amazed at how many wild flowers are blooming along the trail. I stopped several times to get a better look.

I'm not sure where my get-up-and-go was today. After arriving home, I had lunch and later, sat in my recliner and promptly fell into a deep sleep. It was over an hour before I woke up and when I did, I felt as though I could have slept longer.

There are foam liners that fit between the old roof and the newer steel covering. It seems that one or two liners come out every spring after the snow has melted. I spent quite a while this afternoon climbing high on the extension ladder and stuffing them back in.

My day wasn't too exciting and really, I accomplished little. The temperatures are to cool back into the normal range beginning this weekend with the promise of badly needed rain next week.

The radishes, sown three days ago, are beginning to sprout in the raised planter.
Sargie was home early tonight. We grilled burgers and after, took a short walk. The temperature had dropped and it was beautiful.

I'm going to plant squash, mammoth sunflowers, pumpkins, and cucumbers, in the greenhouse tomorrow. I hope to get a week or two head start on the season. Sargie opens tomorrow and should be home early.

It's time to let the pup out and think about heading upstairs to bed. Even after an hour's nap earlier today, I don't think I'll have difficulty dropping off to sleep tonight.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Asparagus cut today is kept in the refrigerator soaking in cold water and will be eaten with supper tomorrow night.
