Grady's back in the house |

This morning saw the thermometer dip towards the upper teens. I realized as soon as I looked out the window that there could be some serious damage in the garden.
Even the asparagus froze solid and wilted |
In the end, I lost a couple of tomato plants and four ground cherries, not a big deal. I have plenty of extra tomato plants in the green house and Neighbor Mike said he is overrun with ground cherry plants in his greenhouse in Marquette. He's bringing me more next weekend.
Most of the morning was spent spraying thistles. I've tried Round Up to no avail. A mixture of bleach and water didn't phase them, so I turned to Plan C; brush killer. Only time will tell. The thistles have multiplied alarmingly in the past several years, mostly since I've cleared a lot of brush from two of the meadows.
I used the pressure washer to strip the loose old paint from the trim around the living room windows early this afternoon. I wanted to paint them, but the trim needed to completely dry.
Two loads of fill were dug and spread onto the side yard later this afternoon. The hole, the result of where I've been digging the fill, is getting to be quite a crater. I figure at this rate, I'll have a mini-Lake Superior in another thirty or forty years.
I told Sargie tonight that the entire side yard should be finished in a month or less. It's really coming together.
I set up the gate in front of the wood stove today and worked for a while making the living room Baby Grady-proof.
All the items were taken off the end tables and the large table in front of the couch has been turned on its side and used as a barrier to keep him out of the stereo and other electronic components.
Grandma Sargie walked through the door late this afternoon with a 23 pound bundle of energy in her arms. Grady has been a great little guy all evening, entertaining us and playing with Brutus.
Sargie has taken some vacation time to be home this week with Grady. We'll be going over to sister-in-law Nancy's in Foster City Thursday morning to pick up a patio set and glider that belonged to Sargie's parents. I think Aunt Nancy also wants her turn to play with Grady.
After, back here at home, there's the trim around the windows to paint and other chores to complete before Grady's, Milligan Family birthday party on Saturday. I'm not surprised.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
