Neighbor Mike with the 25 lb turkey harvested on opening day.

Just as we had a run of beautiful, bright, sunny, and warm days, last week, it appears the tides have turned and we're now experiencing the polar opposite.

We woke up to a dusting of very wet snow this morning and it appears the same meteorological scenario will be played out for at least another thirty-six hours.

There's not a whole lot to talk about this morning. Monday was mostly spent grading papers and final projects while listening to the wind howl and the rain fall outside. I slipped into town to purchase a bag of potting soil and some peat pots in which to transplant the tomatoes that have sprouted and are growing in the indoors greenhouse. I stopped and visited with Yooper Brother Mark for a few minutes, but otherwise, the day was a yawner.

Neighbor Mike called soon after Sargie left for work wanting me to come over for coffee. Never one to turn down a social engagement, I listened as he told of the spills and thrills of the hunt, of bagging a large Tom turkey in the opening moments of the opening day of turkey season. Mike later stopped by the house on his way back to Marquette to say goodbye and to give me the recipe he uses when preparing wild turkey. I'd share it with you, but then I'd have to do you in. It's a secret that's been handed down from generation to generation of Yooperians for at least two or three years.

The rest of the day was spent grading final projects. More than half have come in and since all are due by month's end, I expect the rest to flood my email inbox over the next few days.

Sargie's off today. I think it'll be a restful and relaxing time for both of us. I'm going to replant the tomatoes into peat pots, but otherwise... who knows. I'll let Sargie make the plans. She's the boss.

Meanwhile, it's time to pour a cup of coffee and think deep thoughts.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

Bluegill and crappie flies that Neighbor Mike gave me for this upcoming fishing season. Mike tied these and is known around the UP for his fly tying talents.
