December 24, 2014 - Wednesday
29 degrees/snow flurries/calm winds
Pentoga Road

Okay, so who took it? I pounded out our annual Christmas letter a few days ago, the one I forgot to write last year, saved it somewhere on this new computer, and can't find the thing. Hmm, did I really save it, or is it a figment of my imagination? So, when do I cut and run? Should I write another? Decisions, decisions... Mom has always said life is full of them.

Pentoga Road on Tuesday morning
Tuesday was a snowy day and after my morning stroll, I took advantage of the warm temperatures and snow to play outside, clear the drive and deck, and to play with Brutus.

Sargie driving to work. She had just dropped me off five miles down the road so I could walk back home.

Mom and I watched a movie during the afternoon, ate too much, and talked and relaxed. It was a wonderful day.

Sargie was home early bearing a big ol' smiling gift... Baby Grady! Poor Grady... the boy is getting ready to cut some teeth and could out-chew even Brutus. At one point last night, he grabbed my hand and stuck the knuckle of one index finger in his mouth; and chewed and bit and gnawed.

And in typical baby-fashion, he'd cry, then he'd laugh, then he'd chew.

Still, Grady got his bath, had a bite to eat, and slept the night through.

I walked outside last night and had one of those magical moments that anyone who has ever lived in the North Country has experienced. The snow seemed to insulate and cover everything. The temperature was hovering at the freezing point and there wasn't a breath of air stirring. It was like a snow globe, absolutely beautiful.

And like most pictures, my small pocket camera couldn't begin to capture the beauty, the magic, I felt.

We're being lazy today. Later, we'll drive into town and run an errand or two and before evening arrives, we'll don our Christmas outerwear and drive to Foster City, to sister Nancy's house, the old homestead that sits high atop Milligan Mountain, for our annual family Christmas Eve gathering. There'll be way too much to eat, hugs, kisses, and conversation galore.

Meanwhile, I need to grab another cup of coffee and think about putting a new belt on the vacuum sweeper.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
