It's a dark Monday morning with zero degrees registering on the thermometer. I just took the bread out of the oven, the coffee's hot and fresh... c'mon over for a bite and a sip!

Another week has dawned and I'm thinking that with one or two more nights like last, I could be ice fishing on our small local lake within a few days. It's a month to six weeks too early to think of such a venture, but hey, when in the Arctic, do as the Eskimos do. FISH.

Our large lake that is ten miles long even has ice beginning to form out towards the middle. That's unheard of for so early in the year. It's so deep and broad that in some years, it's almost January before one can safely be on the surface.

Sunday was a lazy one. I started the day by cooking a hunter's breakfast; fried taters, eggs, toast... the whole bit.

Fried potatoes; from the garden to the fry pan.
Sargie worked around the house most the day. I'll confess, I didn't do a lot to help. I spent most of my free time grading papers, making marks, calculating averages, and writing rather lengthy comments on my students' work.

We took a break in the early afternoon for our usual Sunday drive. I spent over an hour cleaning the snow from the back of the pickup truck after which Sargie followed me to the plant where I left it for another load of firewood. Usage-wise, I'm into December now and though I have plenty in reserve, I figure I might as well keep the sheds full by getting a load every couple of weeks.

We returned home to watch the Packers beat up the Eagles. Golly, we look good and I'm really looking forward to the week after next when Andy, Jess, his girlfriend, and I, will be going to Green Bay to watch the New England Patriots take on the Packers. That should be a good one.

Last night was a quiet one. We watched some television, had leftovers for supper, and went to bed fairly early.

Sargie works all week and opens today. I think I'll begin walking my five miles daily again. I feel good, my aches and pains from one infection or another seem to have dissipated, and its time to ward off the holiday excess so I don't emerge in January looking like Tommy Tubby. Later today, I want to draw out the new fish shack in sidewalk chalk on the floor of the barn, grade some papers later, and I'll continue looking at plans for garden ponds online. I hope to build one next summer complete with a fountain and waterfalls and as with most everything, there's a bit of labor involved. Oh well, it'll give me something to do when I'm not solving world hunger or global warming.

You know as well as I that a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
