And the rain poured in....

Let's not forget those who died on 9/11. Hopefully, the world will someday be rid of such vermin and filth as those who brought down the twin towers.

Noah had nothing in the rain department on us yesterday as the skies opened up and washed the earth... then we went through the rinse cycle... and without spinning the water out, dumped even more rain. The gauge registered just shy of three inches before ending.

I went downstairs to begin a load of laundry and noticed water beginning to run across the cement floor. One window well was full from the rain dripping off the house and water was running down the basement wall.

There was nothing to do but gather both wet/dry vacs and begin a procedure I repeated for the next four hours. One vacuum sucked the water while I poured the other into a five gallon bucket and took it upstairs to be dumped. At one point, I was emptying around five gallons every six minutes.

I finally ran to the barn and got a huge drop cloth used to cover the floor in the storage shed before building the roof. Sliding the patio furniture and grill against the wall of the house, I draped the drop cloth so the water dripping from the house would be diverted and run into the yard. That worked. Within the next hour, the steady stream diminished to a mere trickle and finally stopped.

So that was my day. Sargie was home fairly early and we watched America's Got Talent before going to bed.

Oh, I did find a place where the mice have been getting in and plugged it. Sure enough, this morning, for the first time in weeks, I didn't see signs of any nighttime mouse activity nor were there any in the traps downstairs.

God works in mysterious ways. He sent a downpour of rain to flood the basement just to show me where those pesky mice have been entering. Maybe next time, He'll simply write me a note and tape it to the basement door. Honestly? It was worth one day of hard work to put an end to the mouse problem... plus the basement floor is really clean.

Time to get a cup of coffee and listen to the news. After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

The drop cloth diverted the water away from the house and stopped the steady stream of water flowing into the basement. There's another project to complete before snow flies.
