This guy was out enjoying the spring-like weather on Saturday
March 9, 2014 – Sunday
9 degrees/cloudy/calm
Pentoga Road

We sprang forward last night by setting the clocks ahead. I awakened this morning expecting to see blue birds flying outside our windows, butterflies flitting, and honey bees honeying. No such luck. I guess someone forgot to tell Mother Nature to crank into gear and get spring on its way.

Actually, I shouldn’t gripe. A high of forty is forecast for today and one weather service even predicts we might reach fifty on Monday. I’m all over that.

Finally, some bare pavement
After my usual morning walk and a quick trip to town on Saturday, Sargie and I tackled the task of stripping the wallpaper in the kitchen. It wasn’t too bad. She took one side, I the other, and we quit at 5 PM so I could carry in the wood and exercise the dog. There is, possibly, an hour’s worth of stripping to do today and that task will be complete.

I’m not sure what our next move in the kitchen will be. Now that everything is out of the room, it’s fairly obvious that the cabinets were previously used elsewhere. Other than poor workmanship during the installation, and a lot of corner-cutting, there’s really nothing wrong with them. Though painted the same, several don’t match and the base cabinets are different sizes.

It seems everything we’ve found when remodeling, either the upstairs bath or the kitchen, has been cobbled together resulting in a finished product that says, “Good ‘nuff.”

I’m no woodworker and won’t even attempt to remodel these cabinets. I’m a professional piddler, a do’er of all and master of none. Consequently, I’ll insulate behind the cabinets and put them back. We’ll paint the kitchen walls, Sargie will work her interior decorating magic, and in the end, the kitchen will look fresh and redone, certainly an improvement over what it’s been.

Brutus seems to have adjusted well after his stay in the kennels earlier this week. Right now, he’s pretending to sleep in front of the wood stove, but I know he’s really guarding it, making sure no one sneaks in and carts it away.

I’m going to take my walk fairly soon. Other than finish the kitchen walls, I’m not sure what’s on the agenda.

Sargie’s back to work on Monday. I have a doctor’s appointment early. If it does reach fifty on Monday, you’ll find me frolicking and playing alongside the bluebirds, butterflies, and honey bees.

After all, a man’s work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
