Pentoga Road
I’m having a difficult time removing the cobwebs from
between my ears this morning. I was up at 2 AM putting wood in the stove and
fell instantly back to sleep upon returning to bed. The next thing I knew, the
alarm was ringing. Sargie said the same thing. She was sleeping soundly and had
as much difficulty waking as I did.
Sargie closed last night and opens this morning. She’s
worked the past six days straight, closing on three of those. Thankfully, she
gets a short respite tomorrow.
Friday was a busy one on Pentoga Road. We decided to forgo
the tin backsplash under the wall cabinets in the kitchen. I’d wrongly figured
the cost and we both decided this just isn’t the month to purchase the panels.
With that in mind, I began mudding and sanding the wall, then applying a liberal
coat of primer.
Early afternoon saw me painting the ceiling. Having a popcorn texture, it's the most difficult surface I've ever attempted to paint. It was a slow
death and I didn’t finish until almost 6 last night. My arms ached, my neck was
sore, and after I’d broken my second roller from pushing too hard, I was ready
to throw the entire kitchen out into the middle of Pentoga Road. There were
only a few feet of ceiling left to paint when the plastic handle snapped. There
was nothing to do but hop in the car and drive to town to get another. Problem
was, it was getting dark and I don’t do driving in the dark. Thankfully, I got
in and back out before turning into a pumpkin.
I talked with Andy for a bit and I’m going to take a break
next week and fly down to Louisiana for a visit and help him pack in
preparation for an upcoming move. The weather next week is to remain too cold
for the sap to run so the timing is perfect. I’d also be lying if I didn’t say
that I’m looking forward to a few days of warm weather and the opportunity to
wear shorts.
Sargie arrived home late last night and we climbed the
stairs to go to bed soon after. I’m going to attempt to get the kitchen
finished today. No doubt, Sargie will have to touch up the places I missed, but if I can get the bulk of it completed, we can put this puppy to
bed.
But first, it’s time to grab another cup of tea and think
deep thoughts.
After all, a man’s work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
