68 degrees/partly cloudy/calm
Pentoga Road
I’m hoping the haze and clouds hang around this morning to
keep the sun at bay. It’s to be sizzling right up until a cold front comes
marching through later this afternoon. We were spoiled for a few weeks with the
fall-like temperatures; sometimes too fall-like for so early. Maybe Mother
Nature will find a happy medium.
The bottom of Brutus’s doghouse was framed on Tuesday. I’m
making most of it out of 2x2’s simply to keep it light. I’d like to be able to
move the house on occasion, especially when the grass needs mowing, and don’t
want to use the front-end loader. So far, so good.
The dog seems to know I’m making something for him. Every
time I go to drive a nail or get a tool, he’s right under my feet, to the point
I almost trip over him. Good or bad, it will be something he can call his
own. I hope he likes it because he’ll be spending time there, especially if I
substitute teach very often this winter.
By noon, it was hot, I had another headache, and my heart
had migrated south to my knee. I limped to the house, turned the fan directly
on me, and proceeded to take a two-hour nap. It wasn’t the dozing kind, but
rather the type where one wakes and wonders what day it is.
It was too hot and too late in the day to return to work. I hopped aboard the new four-wheeler and buzzed to town for
spices with which to make more bread and butter pickles and a hose coupler so I might fix a blow out in a hose going out to the garden. I also found some good
garden seed, three packs for a dollar. I’ve got a good start on next year’s
garden.
Andy sent a text, then called, last night. He’d received the
tickets for the Lions game at Green Bay in early October. They are in a great
location and close to the field so we can see the action. The kids will be
driving up from Louisiana and planning on spending a week with us. What fun!
Last evening was spent watching tv and waiting for Sargie to get home. She finally arrived around 9:30, tired after a long day in
the Vision Center. I sat up with her for a bit, then went to bed.
Once again, I slept deep and sound during the night and
didn’t awaken until the alarm sounded this morning. I must still be recovering
from the bug I had two days ago. At least I feel somewhat human again.
I don’t know what’s going on with the knee. I’m beginning to
think the doctor forgot a wrench or a hammer in there.
Sargie is back to the Vision Center first thing this
morning. Thankfully, she’s off tomorrow and we’ll be driving to Green Bay to get
her newly resized ring. Since neither of us have much money, I imagine there'll be a lot of window-shopping with little purchasing.
I’m going to begin cutting up the cucumbers as soon as
this uploads. After, I’ll feed and water the giant pumpkins, then will
hopefully get the trusses made for the roof on Brutus’s dog house. With a
forecast high of almost 90, not much else will get done around here this
afternoon.

Time to make hay while the sun shines (and it's still cool.) After all, a man’s work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
