The wallpaper is removed. Next comes mud, and sand... |
April 20, 2013 – Saturday
13 degrees/clear/calm
Pentoga Road
Ah, just like that, we’re back into winter… but the days are
getting long and the sun has strength. I noticed yesterday that even though it
was snowing and in the upper twenties, water was still dripping and the drive
chose to remain wet rather than clogged with snow. Spring must be coming, isn’t
it?
Not a lot to report. I read and graded projects
Friday morning. It wasn’t hard to do with the lousy weather outside. I kept
throwing wood on the fire and pouring more cups of coffee; a perfect day to
grade papers.
The afternoon was spent removing the rest of the wallpaper
from the upstairs bathroom. I finally got one of the garden sprayers from the
garage, filled it with hot water, and sprayed the walls, waited ten minutes,
sprayed them again, then let ‘er rip. It took awhile, but by afternoon’s end,
only the sheetrock was showing.
The problem was, I couldn’t always tell that I was removing
sheetrock tape. It all looked and felt the same to me. After a few explicatives were muttered and an internal hissy fit, I resigned myself that new tape would have to be applied.
Sargie stopped and visited Mr. Milligan at the VA Hospital
after work. By the time she arrived home, dinner was almost ready, stuffed
baked potatoes. These were smothered with shrimp, bacon, mushrooms, green
peppers, tomatoes, lots of cheese, and other things too numerous to mention.
Sargie had stopped over her noon hour at Home Depot and
discovered a small vanity and sink to fit in the bathroom that was on sale for
$39. Since the old one has water damage at the base and is a bit smaller, the
new one will be perfect. I’ll have to pull out my nonexistent plumbing skills
to make the switch in the next few days.
Today will be spent mudding and patching drywall. Since the
surfaces are down to the bare bones, I figured I might as well fix everything
right before we put it all back together. At least the mystery of where Noah’s
flood occurred has been solved. It was in our second floor bathroom sometime in
the past. It’s time to patch, mud, and sand.
Sargie has chosen a light yellow color for the walls. She’s
also looking for a remnant piece of linoleum. As long as we’re changing
everything else, we might as well do the flooring.
Time to move along and greet the day. I think I’ll walk five
miles first thing this morning and get the blood moving. After all, a man’s
work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
