I'm scarifying geranium seeds in preparation for planting. I use tweezers to hold the seed while I scratch the outer surface with either a knife or sand paper making it easier to sprout.

Pentoga Road

It’s hard to believe that a week ago today, we were in New Orleans, meandering around Bourbon Street, people watching, and enjoying the warm temperatures. I guess it’s about the same on Pentoga Road. I just came in after meandering through seven inches of snow after noticing someone went by and made tracks in the road, grateful it’s not any colder.

Bourbon Street/Pentoga Road… polar opposites that exist on the same planet.

At the end of the drive earlier this morning
Sunday was a gloppy mess outside; warm in temperature, but wet and chilly. We left the house long enough to go to the grocery store, but otherwise, the day was spent inside.

Sargie beat me once again playing Rummy. My streak continues.

I scarified geranium seeds, roughed the outer coats of the seed by rubbing them on sandpaper, in preparation of planting. I don’t know if you’ve seen the size of geranium seed… they’re tiny. I ended up using tweezers, magnifiers, and no small amount of muttering. Still, in the end, the thirty seeds were prepared, placed in a bowl of warm water overnight, and today, I’ll plant them in starting mix.

I’m truly shocked at this year’s price of seed. I paid almost $12 for thirty geranium seeds. They are from a good company and premium flowers, but still, it doesn’t seem that many years ago that $12 purchased enough seeds to plant an entire garden.

I’m guessing we spent close to $200 last year purchasing flowers and ornamental bedding plants. I’m hoping to spend less than $20 this year.

We received seven inches of snow overnight and all the area schools are closed for the day. The winter storm warning was to be until four this afternoon, but that’s been lifted and it appears the winds will be calmer than originally predicted. I’ll ride a few miles with Sargie this morning, at least until she gets to the plowed road, to make certain she gets on her way to work. Tonight’s journey home should be much easier for her.

Time to get this uploaded and on with the day’s activities. A man’s work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road…

I honestly had no idea Jimmy was in the picture until I downloaded it onto the computer. I think he's adopted me as he's my constant companion anytime I'm outside or in the barn. The biggest problem may be to keep him out of the house.
