My friend, Wade, and buddy, John, up from downstate, Wisconsin, for a weekend of ice fishing

Pentoga Road
It was a social affair on Pentoga Road yesterday morning as I trekked to the Wisconsin line and back. I had a good conversation with Dave and Sue, camp owners, who were also out walking before leaving for their home in Wisconsin.
We were standing in the middle of the road talking a mile a minute when Wade drove up. He and his friend had been up for the weekend fishing in one of the nearby lakes. As always it was good to catch up on the news with everyone.
After enjoying a late breakfast, Sargie and I took off for a long ride. We ambled to the north and noticed there is a bit more snow, but nothing significant. According to Carl the Weatherman, that's all to change towards the end of this week when much colder and wetter conditions move in from the arctic.
We saw one long needle pine tree that had hoar frost on only one side. It wasn't difficult to tell from which direction the breeze was blowing when it froze.
The local soccer field in Gaastra, buttoned up for the winter months Back home, we carried in wood for the day and fiddled around outside for a bit. The gray skies had cleared and the afternoon sun was bright. Simply put, it was too nice to be inside.
I couldn't believe that we were able to drive the Blazer to the rear of the property to switch flash cards in the trail camera.
It's generally difficult to walk back there with snowshoes this time of the year, let alone drive. The ground is frozen solid making for good base. With just a few inches of light, fluffy, snow, I could have made it without four wheel drive.
It was a typical lazy Sunday right up to bedtime.
I'm heading out for my walk at first light this morning. Sargie mentioned we need a few things today from the grocery store. Otherwise, I'll be in the shop doing whatever it is I do.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
We'll be mowing the trails five months from now
