Granddaugher, Abigail, far right, being inducted on Tuesday evening into the National Honor Society

Pentoga Road

It's a proud grandpa who uploads Abba's picture this morning. Congratulations, sweetheart. We love you so much.

Tuesday was a l-o-n-g day. Holy cow, it was a long one. We didn't leave Pentoga Road until mid morning. Hambone had class so our departure was delayed.

His teacher, as are most, is a rock star. She prepares packets for the entire week and self professes to not being trained for such teaching techniques. As a former supervisor, I place her in the rockstar category, probably higher.

Our trip to Green Bay was fairly uneventful. Hambone tried to do his homework, but there was simply too much to talk about, see, and otherwise distract him. A quick stop on a gravel road relieved his belly ache and we were soon hopping from one store to the other.

Grady was good as he could be, especially since yesterday's foray into dodging people and carts was lengthy. Sometimes he'd walk, other times he'd ride.

The boy has a good sense of direction. He asked more than once if we weren't going around in circles while following Grandma Sargie's hunt for a certain item and occasionally offered advice on where it might be found.

Household items and groceries alike were scooped up during the day and all I really know for certain is that our wallets were much lighter last night than they were before we left.

It was near dark before leaving Green Bay. After a stop for a potty break and a Happy Meal, we drove on and met Uncle Cale just south of the Michigan border. He was on his way back to Green Bay after working all day.

Uncle Cale's one of Hambone's most favorite people in the whole, wide, world, and it made me sad to see Grady try to choke back the tears when we had to say goodbye.

I rebuilt the fire, Sargie started putting groceries away, and Hambone made ready to do homework once we arrived back on Pentoga Road.

With family gatherings ahead, we stocked up on groceries and quickly ran out of refrigerator space. That's one of the good things about living in the north country during the winter months. Our entire garage is one huge ice box that generally remains just above freezing.

Hambone quickly got to work doing his homework. Under Miss Grandma Sargie's eagle eye, he colored, cut, and pasted his way right up to bedtime.

Today will be a repeat of the others. Grandma Sargie is in the shower. It will soon be time to awaken the angry tiger, Hambone, from a deep deep slumber. The boy hates waking up, but once he's fully conscious, is a happy and willing camper.

Tuesday night's homework included making a crown and pasting pictures that begin with the letter T

Once school gets underway, I'll go for my walk.

As far as the rest of the day goes, who knows?

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
