May 11, 2020 - Monday morning
30 degrees/sunny skies/breezy
Pentoga Road

C'mon, even if you are a mask and glove wearing purest, you have to admit, that's funny. It reminds me of something the Pennington boys would have done in their younger days, or possibly now.

I did nothing on Sunday other than go for my walk. It was Mother's Day, cold, windy, and at times, snowy, so Sargie and I sat inside and talked, watched tv, or simply took life easy. I may have even closed my eyes at some point.

Hambone brought his parents late afternoon and we had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration by feasting on Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Grady wanted to show his mama and daddy how he could drive Grandma Sargie's "orange tractor", so we donned our heavies and put on a show in the back yard.

Sadie, the rag mop, grew restless later in the evening so I took her outside for a good old fashioned game of fetch.

Mama and Daddy left last evening and Hambone, Grandma Sargie, and I, watched tv and talked for the rest of the evening. It felt good to share a blanket with ol' Hambone and do a bit of snuggling on the couch. He's an equal opportunity snuggler as he later moved over to Grandma Sargie's chair and cuddled with her.

Sargie told me earlier this morning that after tucking him in, she lay on Grady's bed last night and they talked until well past midnight. That bonding and those times are some Grady will remember well after Grandma Sargie and I long gone and are but distant memories.

I'm heading out the door for my morning walk. Hambone and I are going to get out the old Cub Cadet mower and begin working on that today. The mowing deck died long ago. I promised him that if he helped me get it running, really got his hands dirty, and turned a wrench a few times, he'd have his own four wheeler to drive around the property.

Of course, he's got to earn it by helping, learning, and keeping Pawpaw entertained with his little guy humor.

After all, a boy's work, and that of his Pawpaw's, is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
