October 2, 2019 - Wednesday
It's hot!
Terre Haute, Indiana

We're up bright and early and ready to point the car north.

Mom continued to have a good day yesterday. She called a recliner home for most the time and was happy to entertain either my sister and husband or Sargie and me throughout the day. Mom's appetite is good and the chocolate shake that Sargie and I brought her disappeared in short order. A good old fashioned chocolate shake is one of Mama's favorite food groups.

Mom's still in ICU, but mostly to get her medication regulated. Seems that one med causes another to do something that needs yet a third for some other reason. It's a confusing puzzle that her team of doctors are carefully piecing together.

Mom simply sits and smiles through it all.

All that being said, it appears Mom will be in the hospital another couple of weeks for some intensive therapy then onto the rehab center for even more. Her right leg has been quite swollen and the doctors are eager to get that working again. It'll take a while before Mama leads the girl gang around her senior community, but there's little doubt she'll be back.

Speaking of girl gang, Sargie and I enjoyed supper with them last night where they were eager to hear of Mom's recovery. It's obvious that she's well loved and as one of her good friend's said, "We thought maybe there'd be some long faces around the table tonight. It's so good that we're all smiling."

We have been in a quandary of how to dress for today's ten hour drive. It's very hot and humid here in central Indiana, yet today's high on Pentoga Road is to barely reach fifty degrees. Both Sargie and I have opted to forsake shorts and summer wear for the more practical jeans and heavier tops. No doubt we'll have a fire in the wood stove later this evening.

So, it's been a whirl wind journey, but a good and successful one. Mom's on the mend and that's all that matters. Now we need to get home where I'll finish up my last two days in Bobkitty Land.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
