The epitome of youth
Julien and Maddie
August 25, 2018 - Saturday morning
63 degrees/cloudy/calm winds
Pentoga Road

The much needed rain finally arrived yesterday, just in time for the family gathering at Beniot and Lisa's.

I mean, c'mon. It's been six weeks since we've seen a drop of rain and Mother Nature had to choose yesterday to loosen her grip on the overhead tap?

We'll not complain. That 1.6 inches was badly needed.

Friday morning began rather lazily. The Flash and PawPaw the Claw had their regular bout of good vs evil.

As usual, good triumphed and the world was saved to see another day.

Grady had a good time making a hot pad for Aunt Joanne to take home.

I sneaked out to the shop to recover from my wrestling wounds and finished the mouse and cheese that Joanne had earlier spotted.

It's been sitting on the table, just one small shove from going into the burn bucket, but Joanne said she loved it. Appears as though the mouse will live to see another day.

Joanne was showing us a picture of her granddaughter, Lola. I couldn't resist printing a copy with which to make a puzzle for the little cutie pie.

Seems eight year old Lola was staying at Grandma's and raided her closet, playing dress up. My first big question:

Why does Grandma have a feather boa?

Next question:

Does Grandma have a secret life that few know of?

Despite the rain and cold temperatures, we left early in the afternoon for Lisa and Beniot's camp located about an hour away. The weather didn't put a damper on any of the activities. Most of the big people gathered inside around the table stacked high with food.

Jeanne's directing a chorale that only she can see. Look at the hand position, the flair, the poise, the technique. Simply outstanding! Being somewhat knowledgeable in the field of music, I'll give her an A.
Appears as though Nancy and Sargie are looking for the choir that Jeanne is directing. (Sorry Jeanne, it was there for free.)
Aunt Joanne fit right into the melee and enjoyed getting to know the Mighty Milligans.

The temperature was barely topping 60 degrees and the rain was pelting down, but the little ones didn't let that stop them from enjoying the outdoors.

Huge piles of sand were being delivered so the beach can be enlarged. It doesn't get any better than playing in a giant sandbox.

Why let a little rain ruin a good afternoon?

It's amazing, the resiliency of munchkins. They splashed and played for well over two hours while the more mature males shivered under the carport and caught up on the current news.

The munchkins were hosed off more than once. Hambone was covered in sand and I began calling him Snickerdoodle. Who needs cinnamon and sugar when one is coated in sand?

Once again warm and dry, Grady's cousin and BFF, Caitlin, soon fell asleep on her daddy's lap.
Super model, Nancy, is expecting a call at any time from her nonexistent agent who thinks she should audition for one of the leading cell phone providers.

This was our favorite pose.
As we all know, all good things come to an end. Lisa, Benoit, and the kidlings, will depart for Madrid, Spain, in the next couple of days. Though they've invited Sargie and me to visit, we probably won't see them for another year.

Not so with the rest of the Mighty Milligans as we gather to celebrate Labor Day on Pentoga Road a week from tomorrow.

Hambone hooked a ride back to Iron Mountain with Holly and Ross yesterday afternoon. We turned our sights to the north and west and arrived home early in the evening.

Sister-in-law, Trish and me.
We decided long ago that some year, we're going to assemble a holiday calendar featuring pictures of just the two of us to give to each member of the family as Christmas presents. No doubt, all are eagerly anticipating their gifts.
I have no idea what's on today's agenda and will let the girls make those high-level, executive, decisions. Sargie is wrapping up her ten day vacation as she'll be back to the Vision Center on Monday and I know Joanne is beginning to entertain thoughts of the long drive back to the Atlanta area.

Me? I'm going get another cup of coffee and watch last night's recorded Packers game. Life can be tough you know.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

With his cousins cold and wet and having gone in the house, Hambone stayed outside, alone, to watch the big dump truck deliver another load of sand.
