Pentoga Road
December 23, 2017 - Saturday

Pentoga Road

We're suffering a bit from sleep deprivation this morning. Mel and Macrea hosted the Christmas gathering for their immediate family last night and we didn't get to bed until late. More about that in a bit.

Friday began with the usual four-mile walk.

With the temperature in the low 20's, the trek was enjoyable, the scenery even better.

Look at the size of the burl midway up that sugar maple tree. Worth hundreds of dollars, perhaps more, it would make some beautiful bowls due to an irregular grain.
Once home, Mom began wrapping the presents Santa is bringing to Sargie.

Mom may be ninety years old, but she hasn't lost her touch for making Christmas magic.

We left for Iron Mountain later in the afternoon. I dropped Mom off at the beauty parlor to have her hair done while I filled the gas tank on the car and did a bit of shopping. We later met Sargie at the Vision Center.

Dr. Milligan I presume?

We arrived at Mel and Macrea's early in the evening. Sargie's son, Shea, and his family were already there. Cale joined us later.

Mel had really put some hard work into making Christmas goodies.

An accomplished pastry chef, she proved just as skillful making Christmas candy and other treats.

We enjoyed dips and crackers, candy, cookies, and pizza, until we thought we might bust. There was plenty of laughing and talking and of course, Grady managed to keep us entertained much of the evening.

The evening ended with a huge gift exchange and it appeared Santa had already been there.

It was getting late by the time we left for home.

Sargie opens this morning. Mom and I will be riding back with her to retrieve the car we left overnight.

I don't think we have any plans for today, at least none that I know of. I may try to sneak out to the shop at some point and begin turning a bowl and no doubt, Mom and I will watch a Hallmark Christmas movie or two.

Why? Because we can.

Sargie will be done with work early and doesn't have to be back to the Vision Center until Tuesday morning.

The coffee is made and it's time to get the day started.

After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
