Sargie was so disappointed when she found she couldn't take a dip in Lake Superior Friday afternoon. |
-10 degrees/clear/calm winds
Pentoga Road
Brr, it's chilly outside this morning. Thankfully, the wind that has been howling the past three days subsided, so it doesn't seem nearly as frigid, just cold.
I spent most of Friday morning in the shop and following Thursday's debacle, salvaged a bit of my delicate artistic ego.
The glue on the larger bowl, the one that flew from the lathe and broke in two, held and thankfully, the wall was thick enough that I could redesign the entire thing to hide the glued crack and highlight the beautiful grain. It will be be packed and shipped out in next week's mail.
The smaller bowl, the one with no bottom, well, a new bottom was attached, sanded, and let's just say, it's funky. I'll give it to one of the young granddaughters to play with. Believe me, it won't end up in a museum anywhere, or at least I hope it won't. My name's on the bottom and I don't want people to think that was my finest work.
The back was finally attached to the crappie scroll saw piece and should be finished today and ready to put in the mail.
Sargie and I decided we'd take a day trip to Marquette and do some shopping. Our first stop was at a large store where we found things to buy that I didn't even know we needed!
We even wandered up to a second floor warehouse in search of a certain chair Sargie's been looking for. We didn't find it, but it was fun looking. |
I'm fairly certain there weren't any calories in that bacon/double cheeseburger that was about four feet thick. I wanted to cover as many food groups as possible and it appears I might have.
The rest of the visit was spent sight seeing, doing a bit of shopping, but mostly, just talking, laughing, and enjoying the day.
Marquette, Michigan, must be the last community on the continent that still has an active downtown filled with stores, shops, restaurants and other venues.
When one exits the downtown area and goes over a hill, the first thing he sees is Lake Superior.
It was early evening before we stopped one last time for groceries, then with Sargie behind the wheel, departed for home. Once there, I rekindled the fire in the stove, brought in more wood, and played with Brutus. After being confined all day, he had more energy than good sense and wasn't going to leave Sargie or me alone until we'd gone outside and played fetch.
Today is Sargie's second in a row away from the Vision Center. I'm going to work in the shop this morning then see what Sargie wants to do. No doubt we'll go for our usual day-off ride and get her Coke. Otherwise, the sky's the limit.
It's time to warm up the shop and make some hay while the sun shines... or at least some wood shavings.
Time is money, you know. In my case, it pays little or nothing, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
