Isabella - sporting her Valentine's Day finery |
15 degrees/snow showers/windy
Pentoga Road
Will the winds ever cease? These remind me of the early spring gusts that often signal winter is giving way to a kinder, warmer, season. Dare I hope? The forecast is calling for highs near fifty degrees this weekend.
C'mon Tom, get realistic. Al Gore may say we're warming up, but the calendar says it's only mid February. In the old days, a rise in temperatures would be referred to as the annual February thaw. Spring's getting closer, but we're not there yet.
How about that California drought that was predicted by some to last for decades due to global warming. Enough said.
Valentine's Day was wonderful. The morning saw us opening gifts. Sargie gave me a portable trouble light and a DeWalt socket set.
To own a set of DeWalt's. That girl certainly spoils me.
I gave Sargie the scroll saw piece I've been working on for the past month, flowers, some girl stuff, and later, a crystal butterfly that is now hanging in the front window.
The afternoon was spent driving around the area. Unfortunately, in heading west, we encountered heavy snow squalls and strong winds.
There was nothing to do but turn around.
Eventually finding sunshine, time was spent watching herds of deer, some so close that we could have reached out and touched their noses.
A quick stop was made at a local women's clothing store where Sargie perused the clearance racks.
She found one or two items she liked, but in the long run, decided against purchasing them.
We drove by our local ski hill and saw few people on the slopes. It appeared only one chair lift was running and it was in a protected area. No doubt the wind closed the other lift.
We discovered that there was no electricity when we arrived home. If I had to guess, I'd venture to say that the wind probably blew a tree down across the lines. Thankfully, it wasn't long before the electric company had restored the power.
My friend, Eileen, sent this picture of their back patio, taken at their home not far from Bangor, Maine.
They had over two feet of snow dumped in one storm the day before yesterday with more on the way today. I guess I should quit whining about the little dab of white stuff we have.
Last night was a lazy affair. We watched TV, ate huge salads for supper, and eventually headed upstairs to bed. Valentine's Day came to a sleepy end and today begins anew.
Sargie opens the Vision Center this morning. I'll go for my usual stroll then head to the shop. I have a puzzle to begin and another miniature cup and saucer to turn for the ongoing tea set.
The double ruffled petunia seed arrived in yesterday's mail. It's about time to plant inside, although I might be a bit early. I need to look at the blog from last year as my timing was about perfect.
Meanwhile, I think I'll get myself a cup of coffee and think one, maybe two, deep thoughts. Failing that, it's about time to get breakfast started.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
