Sargie is planting one of the spike plants that overwintered in the basement. It not only remained alive, it thrived and grew.

I'm running about an hour later than usual this morning. Sargie and I had a busy day yesterday and we both fell into bed last night and slept right up to the alarm this morning.
I started Thursday in the shop and finally got the horizontal arm of the cross notched and cut out.
The entire thing was glued, then snapped and clamped into place. Thankfully, I found the right color wood putty and applied that to any imperfections (of which there were many) and set it aside to dry.
The next item on the agenda was to replace some of the soil and fill Sargie's planters with compost.
One of our local groceries was having a one day sale, so we made a jaunt into town to take advantage of that.
Not to dawdle, we came right back home, switched vehicles, and drove to Iron Mountain.
Our first stop was at Home Depot where I puchased two cement tubes (forms) on which to build the garden arbor. I'll cut both in half, making four, and fill each with cement to serve as footings for the arch.
We also picked up the new kitchen window that we'd special ordered. I'll replace the old one this coming week. All I can say is I hope I measured it right! The new one should slip right into the frame of the old. No doubt there'll be some shimming going on, but otherwise, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
We'd been so busy that neither of us had taken time for breakfast or lunch. It was time to dine! I grilled brats outside while Sargie fixed sweetcorn and other goodies indoors.
The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent outside. Sargie worked on vacuuming her car and cleaning the interior.
I returned to the shop and continued sanding the cross.
Growing tired of being inside, I moved my attentions back to the garden where I moved the trellis, spread compost, tilled, and planted this year's crop of cucumbers.
Meanwhile, Sargie filled the deck planters with annuals, mostly geraniums, those from last year that had overwintered in the basement.
With the planting action so hot and heavy, Brutus decided to close his eyes and take a nap.... sitting up. |
Needless to say, there were two very tired kids who showered, then fell into bed last night. We both slept until the alarm awakened us a bit ago.
Sargie works from 9 this morning until 8 tonight. To say it will be a long day for her would be an understatement. One of her coworker's fathers passed away and since they are so shorthanded, it makes it hard on everyone who works there.
I'm headed back out to the garden this morning. I'll drive to town later today and help Yooper Brother Mark with the deck. He's been working on it here and there this week and we hope to get it fairly well finished so they can use their hot tub. It's that time of year.
Time to get the day started and make hay while the sun shines.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
