A beautiful princess
Granddaughter, Emerson
May 17, 2016 - Tuesday
24 degrees/clear/calm
Pentoga Road

Brrr, it's chilly down in the valley this morning. Everything is adorned with frost, but that doesn't seem to be keeping the birds from singing their predawn songs.

There's a pair of wrens that have once again found their way to the small bird house mounted in the old apple tree. Of all the song birds, I think the pint-sized wren is my favorite. How can so much noise come out of such a small creature? I'm glad they once again chose our back yard in which to raise their family.

After my usual early-morning walk on Monday, I worked on the grave marker for a couple of hours. Naturally, the first cuts were made in the wrong places. I'm convinced that my eyes decide where a mark should be and convinces my mind that it is in the right place. In yesterday's case, wrong cuts caused me to throw that section of board away and begin again.

The second attempt seems to be going much better. So far, so good.

Before we even ordered the new kitchen window, Sargie decided the old swag ceiling light had to go. She was going to throw it in the trash.

I'm always light-starved in the shop. Hmm, why not?

Who says I don't have class? A genuine fake Tiffany lamp hanging alongside turkey feathers and a sign advertising airplane rides? No wonder everyone wants to be me.

Yooper Brother Mark was able to leave work for a few hours yesterday so I drove to town to help build his new deck on which their hot tub will sit.

Building a deck wasn't all we did. It was a fun day filled with talking and catching up on life.

Jerad, Mark and Sheri's son, came along at one point driving an old tanker fire truck.

Jerad works for the city and was using the tanker filled with water to flush the town's sewer lines.

I don't know what I'd do with it, but I'd love to have a truck like this. I guess I'd just drive up and down Pentoga Road looking mean and tough.

It was well into the afternoon before the floor was fastened.

Next will come the railing and steps. Mark's timing is good as the forecast is for warmer temperatures. Bring on the hot tub!

Sargie had a long day in the Vision Center on Monday so it was two tired kids who watched Dancing With the Stars and later climbed the stairs to bed. She opens today, but should be home fairly early tonight.

I'm going to walk first thing this morning then work on the cross. The lawn badly needs mowing and I want to begin cleaning out the front perennial flower beds, dividing the hostas, iris, and day lilies. I purchased a piece of hose yesterday and would like to see if the fountain pump is powerful enough to push water to the top of a small falls. There simply aren't enough hours in the day.

More springtime blossoms
Are we surprised? After all, everyone knows that a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
