Finished
August 9, 2015 - Sunday
65 degrees/cloudy/calm
Pentoga Road

I slept in a bit and would still be there if my back wasn't hurting. I don't know what's up with this back business other than I don't recommend breaking yours if you can help it. The doctor warned years ago, after slipping on a snowy step of my cabin and breaking mine, that I might have problems as I grew older. At the time, I laughed. Heck with worrying about a broken back, I was the Arctic Professor, able to leap tall peaks in the Brooks Range in a single bound, all in the name of education. Times change. I struggled to get out of bed this morning. Such is life.

It was wet and misty Saturday morning, too sloppy to do any meaningful work out of doors. Instead, I hooked up the boat and trailer and went fishing.

I should have stayed home. A party with a couple of giant speed boats had been ripping around the teeny lake the night before and had torn it up pretty badly. There were lily pads floating everywhere and the water was murky. After an hour and a half, I gave up and came back home.

I really wanted to complete the walk so I started cutting pavers for the remainder of the trim.

My last masonry blade wore down before I was finished and I had to make a flying trip to town before the hardware store closed.

My next step was to pour sand onto the pavers and sweep it around, filling in the cracks.

After, I sprayed it all with the garden hose and called it finished. Mistakes? I made and learned a lot. Enjoyment factor making the walk? 8 out of 10, but I'm glad it's finished.

I called Sargie at work late in the afternoon and asked if she wanted to go out on a date last night. She heartily accepted and we ended up eating pizza. After, we came home and watched the televised Green Bay Packers Family Night until bedtime.

I'm not sure what's on the agenda for today as Sargie is off. I need to mow some weeds in the rear of the back yard and make it ready so I can haul in fill and rake it smooth. The difficult work was done last summer with the back hoe. Now it's matter of making a yard out of it.

There are green beans that need to be picked. It's time.

Meanwhile, I'm going to grab another cup of coffee and think some deep thoughts. After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...

The walk needs to sit and settle now, be rained and snowed on a few times, and gracefully age. Next will be to build a flower box from left to right alongside the deck and a railing down the right-hand side of the step.
