Pentoga Road
Happy New Year! Sargie and I partied hardy last night in celebration by staying up until 9:30 with both of us sound asleep by 10:30. We're a couple of out of control party animals.
I suppose since this is January 1, I should think of a resolution or two to make. Honestly, I can't think of any that I either haven't made (and probably broken) in years past, or don't want to make now. I need to lose ten pounds, but then I'll do that anyway once the days become longer and I am outside and more active. I've pledged to use fewer swear words in my vocabulary, but then I've been actively attempting to eliminate any and all since I moved from the Arctic Circle years ago. It seems I'm going backwards in the swear word-elimination department.
I believe that this year's resolution will be to live each day to its fullest, to not look back and wish I could redo those parts of my life that were less than stellar, and to continue to be thankful for Sargie, her kindness and the love she so freely gives and shares.
Ah, heck, as long as I'm spreading the love, I'm even grateful for the bulldog. He's annoying, sheds too much, and loves to eat random objects, but he's a good pup.
Certainly I have much to be thankful for going into this 2015 New Year. Amen.
Sunday was Day of the Shelves on Pentoga Road. We went into town to take advantage of a sale at our local hardware store and came home with two boxes of shelves and four totes. All we lacked was a partridge in a pear tree.
The temperature was way below zero, the wind howling. Sargie suggested we assemble the shelves by the wood stove in the living room. An hour later, they were ready to carry downstairs.
The rest of the afternoon was spent rearranging. Right now, our basement looks like a couple of hoarders live here. We're changing some Christmas decorations from boxes to totes, putting more out in the storage unit, some into the basement. Simply put, it's a challenge. We worked until our stomachs told us it was time for an early supper and our bodies cried out that they were tired and cold.
And oh yes, we ate... and ate.... and ate. Our local grocery store's deli department had fried chicken on sale yesterday. We purchased 12 pieces and ate half. Along with mashed taters and gravy, we threw healthy eating to the wind and celebrated the coming New Year. There's a full 365 days to lose those excess chicken and potatoes pounds!
Last evening was spent watching a compilation of Elvis Presley concerts on the Turner Classic Movie Channel. We bee bopped and sang along with the King of Rock n Roll and once again, were saddened at his early death.
Today's warmer than yesterday by almost thirty degrees. I'm hoping to explore the local lake with thoughts of putting out the fish shack for the next couple of months. More below temperatures are forecast for next week and I'd like to have it on the ice by then so I might fish, regardless of all this global warming that is pouring in from the north.
Sargie works early today and doesn't finish until 6 tonight. So much for the Vision Center celebrating the New Year. For us, it will be just another day as usual.
So with all that being said, I think I'll listen to some news, sip a cup of coffee, and think some deep thoughts.
After all, a man's work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
You don't think we could put together those shelves by ourselves, do you? |
