Grandma and Brutus catching up on the news from the past several months. The love story continues.
December 17, 2014 - Wednesday
15 degrees/cloudy/snowy/ breezy
Pentoga Road

Mom arrived early yesterday afternoon for the holidays. I couldn't believe it was the same woman who, a few short weeks ago, had open heart surgery.

The door of the commuter jet framed Mom before she bounded down the snowy steps and walked into the terminal. Mom's back in the house.

I'd earlier spent the morning working around the house. Sargie had given me a short list of things to do before Mom's arrival. The ride over to the airport took a bit of time. Snow had fallen during the night and the roads were less than perfect. Once in Iron Mountain, I took the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping before going out to the airport.

We stopped by the Vision Center so Sargie could see Mom and ended up kidnapping my most favorite optician in the world so the three of us could go out for lunch.

The joyous reunion between Mom, Sargie, and me, was nothing compared to when Brutus saw Mom. Mom, armed with a pocket full of doggie yum yums, had Brutus eating out of her hand, no pun intended, and for the rest of the day (and presumably for the duration of her stay) one will be attached to the other.

I plowed the drive later in the afternoon and brought in wood. Mom and Brutus talked and gabbed and spoke the language that only a grandma and a 125 lb. bulldog can understand. When I checked on Mom last night before going to bed, she was sound asleep in the guest bedroom with Brutus sleeping alongside on the floor. I wouldn't want to be a burglar intruding in the middle of the night.

Sargie arrived home from work and we had a pleasant evening of talking and getting caught up.

Sargie's back to work today. Mom and I need to go into town for some groceries. I'm thinking a huge pot of split pea and ham soup would taste good tonight. Throw in some cornbread covered in butter and honey and we'll have a feast.

The final grades were uploaded to the university on Monday and I'm now preparing for the next class that begins the second week of January. It snowed another couple of inches overnight, so there'll be some plowing to do today. Couple that with whatever Mom wants to do and it looks as though it'll be an active day.

But then are we surprised? After all, a man's work is never done.

So are the tales from Pentoga Road...
