Some days are better fishing than others. Two lake trout caught on Monday. |
34 degrees – clear/calm – frosty

Naturally, Sargie’s off today, the perfect opportunity to sleep in and I
wake up at 4 AM, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. These time changes just don’t
treat me well.
It wasn’t like I went to bed at sundown last night. I
watched the Bears/Packers game right up until the end. It was difficult to watch
Aaron Rodgers go down and even more painful to see that really, we have no
viable back up. I hope our quarter back’s shoulder heals quickly or it could be a very long last half
of the season.
I started Monday morning by walking the usual five miles. It
went well and the knee and legs continue to get stronger. I feel as though some
sort of healing line has been crossed and rather than merely getting by, I’m
actually strengthening my knee and legs by doing some strenuous exercise.
I grabbed a fishing pole after arriving home and went to
Secret Fishing Hole # 12. All I’m going to say is that I did well. (That’s why
it’s called a secret fishing hole.)
It’s been over a year since I’ve hooked and landed any fish
that weighed over ten pounds. It reminded me of standing in one of the many
Alaskan rivers where I used to fish for salmon and trout. I guess there are
nice fish no matter where a person lives. He just needs to explore enough to
find them.
It took a goodly part of the afternoon to clean my catch.
Thankfully, the day was warm enough that I could butcher them out in the barn.
Since yesterday was Monday, I spent no small amount of time
reading assignments. I see more came in overnight, so I’ll try to get those
completed this morning before the sun rises over the horizon.
I’ve already talked about the Packers game. I’ve had root
canals that didn’t hurt as bad.
Since Sargie’s off today and it’s to be nice, I hope to
spend the majority of it outside. Maybe we’ll go fishing and see if I can’t
hook her up with a nice lake trout. There are a few things needed at the
grocery store, which means we’ll take a ride into town and from there, probably
take the long way home and do a bit of sight seeing.
I’m going to put one of those trout on the grill for
tonight’s supper. That and a tossed salad should taste pretty good. Meanwhile,
it’s time to get another cup of coffee and listen to the news. After all, a
man’s work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
