One of the hazards of trapping. Too lazy to put on boots, I was playing hop scotch, jumping from one tuft of dry ground to the other when I missed. The mud sucked a shoe off my foot and suddenly, I was standing ankle deep in freezing water.

It’s going to be a short entry this morning. We’re heading to Green Bay as soon as Sargie’s ready. She says we’re going Christmas shopping; no more last minute rushing up and down aisles in search of a perfect gift. Hey, I’m just along for the ride. No one ever has to suggest we go to Title Town more than once before I’m ready to hop in the car.

Sargie was busy on Wednesday night preparing a bra for the charity event, “Bras for a Cause.” It’s a huge fundraiser put together largely by sister-in-law, Debbie, to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Women decorate the largest, gaudiest, bras they can find (note I didn’t say wear) to be auctioned off to the highest bidders at the big gala this coming Saturday evening.

The past two days have been warm and rainy. I spent most of Thursday in front of the computer doing work for my classes. It’s coming up to the busiest time of the semester. Final projects and research are due in between November 25th and December 5th and final exams are the week immediately after.

I took time away from doing university work to check my traps and found the largest coon I’ve ever trapped. A big ol’ buck, he was quickly dispatched and it took the rest of the afternoon to skin and flesh the hide. I’ll stretch him out on a board this next week.

West Iron School District (Iron River) called and asked me to sub in the high school this coming Wednesday. With last Monday’s job, I’ll soon be a $150 closer to my new trike (or our new windows for the living room) this coming spring.

It’s time to gather up my Kindle Fire and any other paraphernalia with which to pass the time later today. I’m planning on staking out a comfortable seat in the mall while Sargie shops. It’s tough, but someone has to keep those seats warm.

After all, a man’s work is never done.

In years past, I've trapped adult coyotes smaller than this raccoon
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…

I'm glad I could build that new hearth to serve as a pillow for Brutus on these damp and chilly mornings.
