Pentoga Road
We just saw the kids off as they began their long
twenty-four hour journey back to Louisiana. No matter their age, it’s hard to
tell the children goodbye as they head off into the cold, dark, early morning.
At least the weather is to be good during the entire length of their trip.
That’s one less thing to worry about.
Buddies for life |
The past two days have been a real whirlwind. Andy and I
assembled and installed the automatic garage door opener. It was much easier than
the garage door even though we had to notch a rafter or two and make some
rather large accommodations. Sargie is very happy, I’m happy that Sargie’s
happy, and we’ll both enjoy the benefits of a new door and opener this winter
when it’s cold and the snow is falling.
A licensed barber, Mollie gave both Andy and me haircuts late
Saturday afternoon. I told her I wanted to be purty for Sunday’s Green Bay
game. That girl sure knows how to cut hair.
Mollie wanted to take some apples back to Louisiana with them so we picked a large bag from Neighbor Mike's apple tree Saturday afternoon.
Game day! We were up early on Sunday, leaving the house around 7 AM.
The fog was thick and initially, we were worried about the weather.
We had on our Clay Matthews (#52) and Jordy Nelson (#87) jerseys and were ready to roll. |
By the time we arrived in Title Town, two-and-a-half hours later, the
sun was bright and the temperatures just right. It was the perfect football
day.
There were parking lots filled with tailgaters |
The Packers were slow to start, but in the end, came out on
top with a fairly easy victory.
The crowd at Lambeau Field was in a festive
mood and we were part of an all-time attendance record of over 78,500 people.
The flyover during the National Anthem |
Clay Matthews on the right (#52) with all the hair. People often confuse us when I'm wearing my #52 jersey. |

Other than the game, my favorite activity of the day was
watching the University of Wisconsin Marching Band. They performed before the
game and at halftime. I haven’t seen a real marching band in years and enjoyed
it immensely. I once taught marching band, one of the largest ensembles in
Maine at the time… long ago in another lifetime.
A non-footballer, Sargie spent the day shopping and was
delighted to find the mall and shopping centers empty. Everyone in Green Bay
was either at the game or home watching it on television. She met us about six
blocks away afterwards and we made an easy exit from town arriving home around 7
PM. The girl gave us all surprises at the end of the day… new Green Bay shirts
for Andy and me, a nice top for Mollie. What a sweetheart.
Sargie works early today and is off tomorrow. I haven’t read
an assignment all weekend and have close to forty that arrived in my email
inbox during the night. After sitting in the sun all day yesterday, my eyes
were in serious trouble last night and any grading of assignments was out of
the question. Hopefully, I’ll spread them out today and finish by this evening.
I want to spend tomorrow, my last before heading out east to see the boys, with
Sargie and not worry about school work.
The fall colors are beautiful between Pentoga Road and Green Bay |
But first, it’s time for another cup of coffee then get this
uploaded. After all, a man’s work is never done.
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
Some things never change. The children fell sound asleep in the back seat after a long day in Green Bay. |
