September 23, 2013 – Monday
30 degrees/clear/calm
Pentoga Road
It’s a nippy one out there this morning and I wouldn’t be
surprised to see the temperature dip into the mid twenties just before sunrise.
Thankfully, I moved the giant pumpkins yesterday afternoon so I don’t have to
worry where the temperature bottoms out.
Sunday was a mixed bag of fun and games. I walked my former
route of 5.36 miles after uploading the log. It was beautiful. The sun was just
peaking over the horizon making steam rise from the valleys and surrounding
lakes.
My body held up well. In fact, the knee didn’t complain at
all, but there were a few other muscles that complained after a summer of
inactivity. I stopped several times and stretched which seemed to help.
It feels good to be back hiking the old trails |
As painful as it was, I watched the Packers give their
Sunday afternoon contest away to Cincinnati. I haven’t seen my team play that
poorly in a long time, the quarterback included. I can only say that it’s a
good thing Andy, Mollie, and I, are going to their next home game on October 6th
so we can personally coach them back to success.
I have been thinking… the past two years, they’ve had
phenomenal seasons, only to fold at the end. I’d rather they work their
troubles out now and peak at the end of the season during playoff times. Yeah,
that’s it.
As mentioned above, I moved the giant pumpkins yesterday.
Several filled the entire bucket on the front-end loader and it was quite the
chore, but all are resting on the front porch now where they should stay warm
enough to keep from freezing until closer to Halloween.
With Sargie working and an hour of light left in the day, I
hopped on the trike and peddled an additional five miles. It went well with no
problems.
A neighbor who lives a couple of miles away called last night
asking if I wanted to play golf today. Heck, yeah! I have difficulty seeing the
ball after I hit it, but he assured me he’d be happy to assist. I’d about given
up any hope of playing this summer, but then my son, Matt, has said we’ll play
when I visit the boys on the East Coast the week after next and now there’s
today’s outing. What’s next, the PGA Tour?
I’m going to get this uploaded and begin grading papers. The
beginning of the week is always the busiest as assignments are due on Monday
morning. Hopefully I’ll get through several before we tee off around 10:30 and what
I don’t finish will be waiting for me when I arrive back home.
I’m not surprised. After all, a man’s work is never done.
We're ready for fall. The porch was decorated with pumpkins Sunday afternoon. |
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
