A mama bear and cubs
August 1, 2013 – Thursday

I lay in bed earlier this morning thinking of years gone by, when the first day of August signaled the unofficial ending of summer break and it seemed as though we'd been freed from the bonds of education just a week or two previous. After a few weeks of vacation, summer break was over and suddenly, there was only a week, possibly two, to finish any domestic chores and get my room ready in preparation for the beginning of school.

I saw Mom off at the airport in Iron Mountain on Wednesday. Mom told Sargie goodbye as we left her at the Vision Center. After a bite to eat to the local Burger King, we arrived at the airport an hour early. Mom’s bags were checked through and with boarding pass in hand, we waited outside security until it was time. Mom was the first in line and after receiving the usual lecture of putting all liquids, creams, and gels, in a plastic quart bag, was cleared to board her flight.

I talked with her last night and the flights were good. Mom was staying at my sister’s and will drive on home this morning.

I spent most of Wednesday afternoon and early evening finishing the final exam for my class and sent it to the university. It was good to check that off my list.

There was enough daylight that Brutus and I took a two mile walk. Things went well and we’ll do it again later today. Though the knee remains somewhat stiff and isn’t 100%, I can feel it growing stronger by the day.

A youngster looking for a meal. By the time he arrived, it was pretty well picked over.
Sargie was home late last night. We enjoyed tuna fish and crackers as we watched America’s Got Talent. It should be titled, Some of America has Talent. A few of the acts are rather questionable.

A hawk
Sargie’s home today. I’ve got some outside chores to complete and she mentioned something last night about doing laundry. No doubt, we’ll do our usual day-off drive, enjoy a Coke and an ice cream cone. Anytime Sargie’s home, the time goes entirely too fast.

I think I’ll get another cup of coffee and read the news before I head outside and feed my giant pumpkin. After all, a man’s work is never done.

And the raccoon says, "Who? Me?"
So are the tales from Pentoga Road…
